Author guide

The Stacks is a platform designed to offer authors control and flexibility: we want you to have the freedom to decide for yourself what you publish, when you publish, and how it appears.

We currently support Google Doc as a source format for publications on The Stacks; authoring directly in MyST Markdown is coming soon, and we intend to add support for other source formats as well.

Who can publish

Quickstart

To publish on The Stacks, you will need a source document (a Google Doc with Stacks styling directives). Import the document, add the contributors, and pick a license: now your publication can go live. The quickstart walks you through these steps.

Publishing on The Stacks in depth

The Stacks takes a different approach to publications than many journals and conferences.

On The Stacks, you can make a publication that describes results of work, as you would for a journal or conference submission, but you can also create publications that describe ideas or how to use a dataset.

A Stacks publication is intended to be a living document that interacts with the broader open-science ecosystem.

Our in-depth guide covers these ideas in detail.
